Finding the Best Registry Cleaner in a Sea of Copycats, Spyware and Scams

It has well known that registry cleaner software can positively affect Windows performance. Although this may be true, there is a trend emerging in registry cleaning software that can make selection of a suitable registry utility a problem. Whether you need registry repair, registry recovery or just registry cleaning for performance improvement, you are going to encounter the same concern when obtaining a registry utility.

Although most of the software on the market will clean or repair your registry, one runs into problems when selecting software based on web site recommendations. Most registry tools offer affiliate programs, meaning the website who recommends the product will make a large percentage of money from the sale. It is very hard to get factual information from an affiliate site. They seem to write glowing reviews about everything. When you do venture to the official website of some of these tools you will find a common trend. That being the lack of a company identified with many of the tools.

There is a large number of registry cleaners that have websites that are nearly identical, with the same testimonials by people with the same names, the same page layout and navigation naming scheme, etc, the same support available - email only. Otherwise they had no company associated with them, no physical contact information, no address, no post box, no city, state or country.

There are 2 possible scenarios that may be behind this. 1 - the people behind the product could be using black hat strategies like installing the utility along with spyware (or allowing affiliates to do this) and don't want to be identified. 2 - the real company that manufactures the software sells a rebranded version of their software to individuals who then market the software with the new name using the same site layout and testimonials. I wasn't able to determine which, if either of these is correct but it should remind you to do your research before you buy.

Out of all the registry cleaners researched, there are 3 registry cleaner software packages that stand above the others as unique tools (not rebranded), but only 2 of them appeared to have a real company behind them who offered their physical location and contact information. These two registry cleaners were Registry Mechanic and RegCure.

Even though you will likely have some success cleaning your registry no matter which product you choose, we were alarmed by the lack of human presence behind the majority of software available. If you are looking to increase your Windows performance and repair registry errors with a good registry cleaner software, choose Registry Mechanic or RegCure - you won't be disappointed by the performance or support of either one. Both have won many awards, and they get my award for being among the only registry tools backed by a real company.
